Senna Cup Round 1 Race Report

Rye House Kart Raceway, March 12, 2016

The first round of the 2016 Championship started promisingly enough with nineteen drivers taking to the track, all keen to make a head start on gathering as many points as they could for the season ahead.

The ten-minute practice was uneventful, as was the start of racing proper,  but fourteen laps in, one kart strayed onto the grass  coming into Stadium, hitting some standing water, which was then sprayed onto the driving line.  Although the first three on the scene escaped, the rest weren’t as lucky as in the fraction of the time it took to wave the “slippery” flag, twelve karts had hit the wet patch and shot off on the same trajectory ending in a scrap heap by the Stadium tyre walls.

There was no option but to red-flag the race and all the marshals hared over to the crash site to sort out the mess.  It was an ugly scene with the two-week old fleet of Biz karts all tangled up together with three injured drivers.  Fortunately, the damage was not nearly so serious as first feared with only one kart suffering a broken track rod, two drivers  given first aid at trackside, and Mike March taken off to the local A & E with what looked like a broken ankle.  Thankfully, this proved to be ligament damage rather than the suspected fracture.

The drivers opted to call it a day and the remaining ten minutes available were played out as a practice session.  It was a pity that the timing system had to decide the result of the race on the last completed lap when there was so much time left to influence the outcome and such a major prize at stake for the winner.  Stu Pool won with the fastest lap, with Gary Poole second and Jay Dalgano third.

The prize itself was awesome – a guest seat in the Karting Magazine prokart for the next round of the Rye House ProKart (RHPK)  owner/driver endurance which is run on the afternoon of the same day.  Karting Magazine is entering a Biz Kart in every round with a guest seat awarded to a different driver round the country each time. Team Captain Lee Henderson congratulated Stu Poole on his prize after the day’s trophies were presented and welcomed him as a team member for the April meeting. A worthy addition and it will be fascinating to see month by month how the guests gel with regular contingent in racing and handovers.

The Senna Cup is held on the second Saturday morning until November inclusive at Rye House on their corporate fleet of Le Mans Biz Karts and is open to all-comers as well as the regular band of enthusiasts who are competing for the Championship.

Senna Cup – Race Report February 2016

Rye House Kart Raceway – February 13, 2016

It was wet and wild at the Senna Cup curtain-raiser to the Championship held on the second Saturday morning from  March to November inclusive at Rye House on their fleet of Biz Karts.  This one is for adults and has encouraged  many drivers  to guest  in  the Owner/Driver ProKart Endurance Championship later in the afternoon.  Give it a go if you want in on a competitive but friendly Championship!
