5 years, 5 moments – TKM Festival

The TKM Festival is often described as one of the most prestigious events in the UK Karting calendar. TKM drivers, including novices, get the chance to race in the traditional Festival and Elite races and introduced last year, those with full licences are able to compete in separate races for the desired ABkC TKM ‘O’ plate titles. It’s an event that always provides drama, excitement, upsets and great racing with only one prize at the end of the weekend! As per the last few years, this year the Festival will once again take place at Kimbolton this weekend and we will be there bringing you live updates! But for now, we look back at some stand out moments from the last five years, how many can you remember?

2015 – The comeback King!

Last year was first year the O plate came to the festival, making it very busy weekend with non-stop on track action. Ryan Cole came out of retirement to be crowned the winner of the Festival in TKM Extreme for the 4th time in a row!

Another highlight from last year included, Abbi Pulling coming straight out of IAME Cadet to be fastest in qualifying in both the Festival and the O plate in Junior TKM – the only driver to do so! Throughout the racing Abbi was always there in the lead group and took away the ladies trophy!

2014 – Fast Forward!

It was the year that the Festival was hit by hurricane Burtha, which almost stopped the event! The Junior TKM Elite Final took place in tricky conditions, which was always going to make for interesting racing. Bradley White, Ryan Edwards, Alex Forward, Dino Lee and Chris Whitton had been the ones to watch all weekend, but it was Alex Forward on pole and he pulled a clear lead whilst those behind him battled.

Alex looked set to take victory, but then disaster struck as he caught a back marker. Error of judgement from Alex or the back markers fault? Watch at 5:20 and let us know what you think!

Despite the incident Alex’s huge lead meant he still finished 7th place

2013 – ‘The best kart race ever’

The Junior Elite Final in 2013 was described as “The best kart race ever!” and “A motor race made in heaven”. With Stephen Letts and Lewis Outten on the front row and Daniel Baybutt and Alex Forward behind them it was bound to be an exciting race. The video speaks for itself with the amount of lead changes every lap and the closeness of the racing.

2012 – Ryan Green – The hard charger

In 2012, Ryan Green, after dropping 12 places in the Pre Final, started the Senior TKM Elite Final in 30th position. Clearly fired up for the one off race, Ryan produced one of the fines drives in Festival history to climb 26 places to finish in 4th! Phil Smith was the man who went on to win and there’s no doubt he’ll be looking to repeat that this year if he is present.

2011 – Heartbreak for Jake Walker

The Junior TKM Elite Final looked to be a busy one in 2011, with Toby Sowery climbing 25 places to finish 3rd and Stephen Letts climbing 23 places to finish in 4th. Jake Walker who was the O plate holder, started on pole and finished 1st, only to be disqualified, giving the win to Danny Kierle. Danny had only just won the GP plate – the weekend before which he won again last weekend at PFI!
