ON THIS DAY… Tom Ingram – Throwback Thursday

Tom Ingram finished 4th at the Buckmore Kart Club Championship round two in the Honda Cadet class.

After two 2nd place finishes and a 7th in the heats, Tom had gained himself a good position on the 16-kart grid for the final. Although Lewis Reeves would go on to win the race by almost 14 seconds, Tom was involved in a close battle for 2nd which contained as many as 5 karts.

In the end Tom just missed out on the podium finishing 4th which was a good results given the quality of the field. Other drivers racing included Elliot Rice (2x Easykart Champion) and James Raven (Formula Ford Festival Champion).

But it was the start of a hugely successful career for Tom which really kicked off when we won the Stars of Tomorrow championship three years later in the Minimax class.

A year later and Tom was racing in the same championship in Junior Max where he finished an impressive 8th in the championship. Funnily enough also competing that year were fellow BTCC drivers, Dan Lloyd, Chris Smiley and Mike Epps who were 9th, 10th and 12th respectively!

After one more year of karting it was in to cars for Tom as he graduated to the Ginetta Junior championship. After one season to bed himself in, Tom won the championship in 2010 beating Jake Hill and Louise Richardson to the title.

A year later and Tom was a champion once again, this time in the Ginetta GT Supercup – G50 as he won the title comfortably with Jody Fannin 2nd. He wasn’t quite able to make it three championships in a row when he graduated to G55, but he still managed 3rd place.

However, he won that very same championship in 2013 finishing almost 140 points ahead of Carl Breeze.

Tom then hit the big time as he graduated to the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship with Speedworks Motorsport and in his first three years Tom has finished 14th, 13th and 10th in the championship.

Heading into the fourth weekend of the championship this year at Oulton Park Tom currently sits at the top of the standings and has gained a huge following!
