ON THIS DAY 4 YEARS AGO…
Teddy Wilson finished 13th in the Comer Cadet Final Two at Round four of Super One. The location that weekend was the GYG circuit in Wales and Teddy, a rookie at the time, finished 12th in his qualifying group out of eighteen drivers.
In the first heat Teddy climbed up to 13th place from 15th on the grid and followed that up with a 12th in heat two.
This put him comfortably through to the A Finals where he would start on the outside of row eight for Final One.
Unfortunately, things did not go to plan in Final One, involved in a first lap incident, Teddy found himself crawling round in 27th for the whole race with the next kart, Wesley Brown, twelve seconds up the road at the flag.
From the back Teddy wasted no time in getting the hammer down in Final Two and was up to 20th by the end of lap one! In a very competitive field Teddy was able to make steady progress to eventually finish 13th place setting a best lap of 49.69. A time which was three tenths slower than the fastest lap of the race set by Lewis Thompson.
Finishing on the podium that day was Josh Smith, Hugo Bentley-Ellis and Cameron Roberts.
Teddy went on to finish 15th in the championship that year with Enaam Ahmed the eventual champion. The following year was filled with much more success for Teddy as he finished 4th in Super One, now in the IAME Cadet class.
This all led to 2014 where Teddy won Super One and finished 3rd in the LGM Series.
That would unsurprisingly be where Teddy’s Cadet career ended as he jumped up to KF Junior for 2015 competing in Europe. He took part in the WSK Series, CIK-FIA European Championship, South Garda Winter Cup and the Andrea Margutti Trophy.
It was a learning year for Teddy and has hopefully set him up for a strong 2016. Now a CRG factory driver, Teddy heads into the finale of the CIK-FIA European Championship at Genk this weekend 15th in the championship hoping for a podium to boost him up the standings!
It’ll then be time to prepare for the World Championships at Bahrain later in the year.
