Chasewater Kart Racing Club has submitted a planning application which would resurrect the club after 13 years.
The Club previously ran a racing circuit at Chasewater Country Park for over 40 years. Following acquisition of part of the Club’s circuit for the construction of the M6 Toll motorway however, the remaining land was insufficient in area to reconstruct the circuit and the Club ceased racing at the track in May 2001. Despite having planning permission granted for a new site in Cannock in 2004, the Club was unable to complete the purchase of that site.
Plans for a new 950-metre circuit with a 400 capacity car park based next to Junction 11 of the M6 at Shareshill in Wolverhampton, have been submitted to South Staffordshire Council. The Club forecasts to operate over 22 weekends per year.
A CKRC statement read: “If we get consent the Club is confident that the development will enable it to make a worthwhile contribution to the facilities available in the area and re-start the work it had previously undertaken in providing karting activities and driver training for children and adults alike.”
