After a successful inaugural year in 2015, the Karting magazine Awards will return this year bigger and better.

There will be ten categories in this year’s awards with the nominations to be decided later in the year. This year’s categories are:

Karting magazine Driver of the Year
Female Driver of the Year
Rookie Driver of the Year
International Driver of the Year
Photo of the Year
Race of the Year
Outstanding Contribution
Circuit/Club of the Year
Indoor Circuit of the Year
Initiative of the Year

The entries for the awards will be opened up later in the year. As in 2015, we will be announcing a panel that will decide the winners of some categories with other categories being decided through online voting.

The event

We are very excited to announce that this year we will be hosting an Awards night to present all the winners and highly commended drivers with their Awards. However, it’s going to be an Awards night like no other.

Our Awards will be hosted at Capital Karts, who won our Indoor Circuit of the Year in 2015 and on top of the presentations we will be hosting the biggest kart race of the year!

The Awards date will be announced next week so make sure you check out Karting magazine to get it in your diaries.

Here’s Karting magazine Editor, Chris McCarthy to explain more:

“Our 2015 Awards was an overwhelming success and as such I wanted to go bigger and better for the 2016 Awards. The format of how it will operate will not change much, but we decided an Awards evening was needed. However, I wanted to do something different from the norm and make it a fun event for everyone to remember. We have decided to host the Awards at Capital Karts where we will be hosting a race as well as presenting the Awards.”

“Going to Capital for the first year really made sense. They won the Indoor Circuit Award last year and they host the Johnny Herbert Karting event every year. I went to visit Capital and it straight away ticked all the boxes and I was so impressed by their venue and staff. Having the buffet and fully licenced bar will make the event fun for everyone and it will give the chance for all our nominees and guests to put on their race gear and go out just for some fun.”

He continued:

“There are lots of announcements to be made over the coming weeks and months on the Awards, but we are very confident this will be an Awards evening everyone will enjoy!”

The Awards evening is not just for the nominees though, as Chris McCarthy explains:

“We wanted to open the event up to everyone in the Karting community and we’ll be offering some great prizes for the race itself along with a raffle for a charity TBA. I want this to be an event where we all get together as a community for one night and have some fun. Even if you are not nominated for an award I’d encourage you to participate or come and spectate as we will be having some very special guests along with some of the most talented drivers and inspirational figures in the sport.”

Capital Karts, based in Dagenham, were certainly very pleased to be the hosts of the 2016 Karting magazine Awards. Their Managing Director, Matt Holyfield, commented:

“We are delighted to host the 2016 awards and look forward to welcoming all drivers for a fantastic racing event and awards ceremony”

The official announcement has now been made with plenty more to follow. Make sure you’re at Karting magazine on Monday 5th September to find out the date of the Awards night.
