After bursting onto the International scene last month, Oliver Denny confirmed last weekend that he means business in this years Florida Winter Tour as he took Round 2 victory in Ocala.
Oliver’s Round 1 victory in Miami came as a bit of a surprise to most people considering his huge inexperience in racing, but he has proved any doubters wrong by taking back to back victories in one of the Worlds most competitive championships.
The weekend started brilliant for Oliver as he found himself at the top of all the time sheets throughout practise and he was able to follow that up in heats 1 & 2 with two commanding victories.
Heat 3 was a bit more of a struggle with the high winds making it hard for Oliver to break the tow, but he was able to hold on and win by 0.5 seconds.
It then came to the pre-final which would set the grid for the main race and Oliver started brilliantly, quickly establishing himself a 1.7 second lead. But behind drivers were starting to work together in the attempt to try and beat Oliver who so far was unbeaten all weekend.
With 3 laps to go Oliver managed to find another gear and cruised away to take victory setting consistent fastest laps.
Then came the final and what would turn out to be the most exciting race of the weekend. On lap 10 Oliver found himself in unfamiliar territory back in 6th place, but he picked his opponents off one by one and managed to defend for the last few laps to take victory!
After the race Oliver commented: “We knew the Benik chassis was great around Ocala and strong at the race end. I would like to thank the Benik team and Paul Munn for the hard work.”
His mechanic Paul Munn commented: “I can’t put into words how proud I am of Oliver Denny this week, to come away with pole position, fastest event lap, to win all 3 heats, the pre-final and very hard fought main final was some achievement!!”
The victory means Oliver is the only unbeaten driver on the whole tour and leads the championship. Things are looking in good shape for British champion to be crowned in the states!
