Briton Josh Smith has set an early season target of podiums before competing for victories in the second half of this year after he was confirmed as an ART GP racer in international KF Junior.
The Racing Steps Foundation-backed youngster will concentrate on overseas racing and will not compete in the new pooled engine KF Junior class in the UK. Smith raced a dual campaign in Rotax and KF Junior competition last season.
“Last season the Rotax running was all about developing the chassis in the team’s first season in the category,” Smith’s dad Andrew said. “The results spoke for themselves in the second half of the year. This season Josh has more experience and ART is a determined team. That will enable him to adjust to international racing early on and really push in the second half of the year for wins.”
RSF operations head Derek Walters said: “We decided to focus on international racing as Josh is coming up to the important GCSE time at school. We don’t want to over-burden him.”
