Formula Kart Stars race winner Max Stilp impressed team bosses as he took to the Silverstone race circuit in a Porsche Carrera Cup Car, his prize for finishing third in the Super FKS Championship.
Stilp, who claimed his first FKS victory at Three Sisters circuit in August, got behind the wheel of the 460 bhp 911 GT3 Cup Car on a damp Silverstone track, the home of the British Grand prix. With the car weighing in at just 1200kg, the power to weight ratio from the 3.8 ltr rear engined Porsche was a little more than what he was used to from his Super FKS kart. Despite this, the 16 year old immediately impressed.
“I really enjoyed the day,” commented Max. “I had never driven a race car before so this was a completely new experience for me. The car was amazing, so fast, as well as grippy considering it was wet track.
“I would like to thank FKS, GT Marques and Porsche for this great experience and also FKS Old Boy Adam Christodoulou who was a great instructor and helped me get the best out of the day.”
Speaking after the test, Darioush Gheissari Porsche UK Assistant Motorsport Manager commented on the FKS prize:
“It’s fantastic to see such young karters take an interest in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship. The series has never had so much momentum, especially after former Carrera Cup drivers Earl Bamber and Nick Tandy won Le Mans earlier in the year. It just shows that young drivers can go all the way to the very top.”
Carolynn Hoy, FKS Chairman added “Max did us all proud. He showed just how high the quality of driving has been in FKS this year and I look forward to seeing how his career progresses.”
