OEKC 2016 British Championship Round 7 Report

Following a sunny full day of practice on the Saturday the OEKC teams arrived to warm, dry track on Sunday race day. The majority of teams still made use of the race days one hour practice session before starting the 15 minutes of qualifying. Local team Crash Test Dummies made good use of their superior track knowledge and took pole position by 8/100ths of a second. Box-Tech qualified in second place. Row two had Specsavers alongside G-Tech. The third row consisted of  FPF and Insure 2 Drive. Vivo were in seventh place with Team Velocity in 8th. The top ten was completed IJM & Enzo Motorsport. The top 14 teams were all covered by less than a second.

The first lap of the race saw Crash Test Dummies, Box-Tech & G-Tech quickly moving away from the chasing pack. A mistake by JRJ resulted in a broken track rod and a visit to the pits. At lap 38 the top ten teams were all on the same lap and covered by just 37 seconds. By the 60th lap G-Tech, Crash Test Dummies & Box-Tech were a lap ahead of next 5 teams. Insure 2 Drive, Specsavers, VIVO, IJM & BR-Eight who were having their own battle. FPF were struggling with a wiring loom problem, which lead to them being in the pits for repairs.

75 minutes into the race Box-Tech were leading G-Tech with Specsavers, Crash test Dummies & Insure 2 Drive a lap behind. On lap 132 the top three teams were Box Tech, Specsavers and Crash Test Dummies. G-Tech had dropped to fourth with Insure 2 Drive in fifth & VIVO sixth. The next three teams were all on 129 laps, JTS, IJM & BR-Eight. Enzo Motorsport visited the pits to get their dragging bumper refitted before re-entering the fray.

By lap 170, Specsavers were leading Box-Tech by 6.3 seconds. FPF continued to have electrical issues which resulted in regular visits to the pits. The top ten teams were covered by 7 laps with Team Velocity, BR-Eight and TT Sport all on 163 laps. During the next period of the race, running up to the three hour mark TTM cracked their chassis and needed to move their engine and ancillaries onto another chassis. VIVO were up to fifth place and on the same lap as JTS. Later in the race and on the fastest part of the circuit, TTM hit a rabbit which disintegrated on impact & was launched into the air. This was just one thing that happened in an incident packed day for TTM.

As the teams reached 4.5 hours the chequered flag was dropped for race winners Box-Tech. Specsavers took Premier class second with G-Tech in third place a lap ahead of Crash Test Dummies. VIVO were Clubman winners with IJM second & Team Velocity third.  G-Tech took fastest lap on 46.3 seconds.
